Self-Directed

We don’t follow a set curriculum. We start with the teen.

Through regular conversations and mentor meetings, each young person explores their interests, takes on real work, joins classes and projects, and gradually shapes their path.

As they grow, their days evolve. Sometimes that includes internships, jobs, deeper study, or new directions, and we stay alongside them as they figure things out.

Self-direction doesn’t mean being on your own. We stay present and engaged, especially when things feel hard.

Mentor Supported

Each teen works closely with a mentor who gets to know them well — their interests, questions, challenges, and hopes.

Mentors meet regularly with teens, helping them reflect, make decisions, and follow their curiosity into real experiences, whether that’s classes, projects, work, or new directions.

Over time, mentors stay alongside teens as they grow, offering perspective, encouragement, and steady support as they figure out what comes next.

Mentors pay close attention and step in when needed, while trusting teens to take the lead in their own learning.

Family and Community Centered

We see families as an important part of a teen’s experience at Current. We stay in conversation throughout the year and make space for connection and reflection.

Our community is shaped by the people in it — teens, families, and mentors — and we welcome participation in ways that feel natural and supportive.

We also stay connected to the wider community, helping teens build relationships, find opportunities, and follow their interests beyond the Center.

Homeschool Requirements, Transcripts, and Next Steps — We’ve Got You Covered

Teens at Current are registered as homeschoolers in Pennsylvania, and we help families navigate the process from start to finish.

We’re familiar with PA homeschool requirements and support families with documentation, transcripts, and anything needed along the way. As teens explore their interests, whether that leads toward college, work, or other paths, we help make sure their learning is well documented.

Colleges, trade programs, and other post-high school options are accustomed to working with students from alternative learning environments. Teens leave Current with the records and experience they need to move forward with confidence.
